The proposal

Windel Energy is proposing to construct, install and operate a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and associated infrastructure and landscaping on land near Woodend between Bigrigg and Cleator in West Cumbria.

The site

The proposals will include:

  • The installation of 16 BESS units and associated infrastructure

  • The provision of 60MWh storage capacity

  • Landscaping, habitat and Biodiversity Net Gain Enhancements

Each BESS unit typically resembles a storage unit, measuring approximately 6m long, 2.5m wide and 3m high. The expected construction timeline is 6 months.
