JT Energy
Storage
Welcome to the public consultation website for the JT Energy Storage proposals.
Windel Energy are developing proposals for a Battery Energy Storage System on land near Woodend between Bigrigg and Cleator in West Cumbria.
As part of our pre-application engagement with local stakeholders, the team have developed this website to share information about the proposals and invite the local community to provide their feedback.
The transition to Net Zero
Along with the rest of the UK, Cumberland Council has identified an urgent need to combat climate and nature challenges.
In July 2024, Cumberland Council set objectives and commitments to overcome these challenges with one of the key areas of focus being energy and green growth. There are currently not enough battery storage facilities to enable the UK to store the amount of renewable energy needed to effectively decarbonise the electricity system.
To build upon Cumberland’s renewable energy sources, and support the UK’s transition towards Net Zero over the coming years, Windel Energy is proposing to construct, install and operate a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Cumberland. We anticipate the application to be submitted to Cumberland Council in May 2025.
